Your Value in Christ (a reflection by Fr. Ogoe, based on Matt 13:44-46)

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it (Matt 13:44-46).

It is important to know your value in Christ. Can I ask you to do an exercise? Name your value. What value do you attach to yourself? Perhaps you are wondering: Does is matter what my value is? Yes it does! How you see yourself is very important. The value you see in yourself is an important key to victory in life. It is something we don’t often ponder on. But, as believers God wants us to have knowledge, and not be ignorant. Ignorance of your own value before God can be the root of failure in many aspects of your life.

When you know your value, you know your abilities. And when you know your abilities, you are ready to operate on the level of those abilities. You want to KNOW your value. How do you do that? Simple. Your value is hidden in Christ, the Son of God. At the beginning of creation were all created through him (cf. Jn 1:1-3). If you are born again, your situation is even more profound. You have become a new creation (2Cor 5:17), and you are forever the workmanship or handiwork of God, created in Christ (cf. Eph 2:10). This means that your value is forever linked to the value of Jesus. When you know the value of Jesus, then you know your value, too. In other words, only Jesus (and only HE) can show you your real value. That is why knowing (not the intellectual, theoretical, mechanical type) Christ is so critical. Ignorance of Christ, is ignorance of self! The more you know Jesus, the more you understand who you really are. Awesome!

Let us take a look at the parable in Matt 13:44-46. There is a treasure hidden in a field. That treasure is you. Jesus is the one who finds you and sells everything. The Bible says, he did not only buy the hidden treasure, but the entire field as well. You are supremely important to Jesus and so valued by him, that he has bought you beyond measure. It was at the price of his Blood (cf. 1Cor 6:19). The second parable is like the first. A merchant goes in search of fine pearls. He finds one of great value, sells everything he has and purchases it. Jesus is that merchant who takes the initiative, going in search of the precious children of God predestined for salvation in Christ. He sold everything. He stripped himself of everything. The Bible says that he found a pearl of great value. That pearl of great value is you, my friend! You are a pearl of great value. You are so precious that the Son of God sold everything to purchase you with his Blood. You have been found. You have been bought and paid for. From now on, you are no longer hidden (a city built on a hilltop cannot be hidden – Matt 5:14). You are no longer forgotten and trampled upon. Jesus has found you. You have arrived. You are home.

Beloved, can you begin to see you value in Christ. The time has come to arise and shine. Understand you value in Christ. Believe your value in Christ. Begin to operate on the level of your value in Christ. You are a precious somebody in Christ. Let go the low self-esteem, the fear, the anxiety, and the defeat mentality. You are a pearl of great value. You are god’s very treasure. It took the Blood of the Son of God to purchase you. Begin to live a victorious life in Christ.

Pray with me

Father, I thank you for showing me my value I Christ. I thank you that I am precious in Christ. I accept my value in Christ. I believe my value in Christ. I have your supernatural ability to shine and succeed in every area of life. In the Name of Jesus.
