HIDE GOD’S WORD IN YOUR HEART

Daily Devotional: Day 8

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I  might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:11, KJV)

God’s Word must not just be information in your head. God wants to transform you with his Word. To do this, his Word must abide in your heart. The Hebrew word – tsaphan – translated “hide” means to consciously conceal or treasure something. If God’s Word matters to you, you’ll store it in your heart as a treasure. This is important, because when you store God’s Word in your heart, it penetrates and saturates your spirit. Your heart will be healthy before God. And a changed heart is a changed life. You’ll begin to think, speak and act like your Father in heaven. Some people memorize the Bible from cover to cover. They can tell you everything you need to know about its content. Yet, it’s all in their head. You can tell, because their life is not transformed by the Word they’ve memorized.

Memorizing God’s Word has its benefits. Transformation isn’t one of them. Think about it: Anyone can memorize the Bible. You don’t need to be a Christian to memorize it. It’s a simple intellectual exercise. However, your relationship with your Father is more than that. Your relationship with the Father is a love affair; it’s an exercise in transformation. Transformation occurs when you meditate on God’s Word and  receive  it into your heart as a treasure – allowing the Word to govern your will, emotions and decisions. The Word of God will ignite in you love for the Father and his commands. At the same time, the living Word in your heart will keep you from sinning. You see, God’s Word is power. When you store it in your heart, you’re accumulating divine power and divine wisdom. It’s just a matter of time before you notice in your life the fruit of righteousness, peace, love and joy. Learn from Job; he said, “I have esteemed the words of his [God’s] mouth more than my necessary food” (Job 23:12). Now you know what to do . . .

Prayer

Daddy, thank you for your living Word. Enabled by your Spirit’s anointing over me, I’m storing your Word in my heart as my treasure. I’m excited about the transformation your Word is creating in my life. Glory to you now and forever, in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
