Daily Devotional | Day 252
“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established” (Proverbs 16:3, KJV).
Your thoughts are an essential part of your existence as a human being. We know that God made us in His image and likeness. In creating us, God has given us the ability to create, conceive and translate thoughts into action. The things we do (or do not do) are based, for the most part, on our thoughts. Our ability to form thoughts is one of the ways in which we are like God. It is a gift from God. Let us, therefore, not take for granted this ability. Forming the right thoughts and handling them well is essential to our personal development and the development of others.
You can have the most wonderful thoughts about how you want your life to be. That is a good start, but you need more than thoughts. More importantly, you need your thoughts to be well-ordered and established. Here is where you need the wisdom of God’s word. Today’s Scripture says, “commit thy works to the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” It sounds simple. But if we knew the importance of having our thoughts established, we wound appreciate the significance of the passage.
Committing your works unto God means entrusting to Him your ways, your plans and your aspirations. Why is this important? First of all, plans can die and thoughts can fade into non-realization. We all can relate to that. Changing circumstances can affect our thoughts and cause us to waver. But when you commit your works unto God, He shall establish your thoughts. You will think clearly, aided by the Spirit of God. You will see your way clearly and you will not waver about what you want (and can) do.
Your thoughts are safe in God’s hands. He knows the end from the beginning and His counsel shall stand (see Isaiah 46:10). He is the beginning and the end (see Revelation 1:17). He sees the future before you get there. This is the Person you need on your side. He shall establish you. When your thoughts are established, you will no longer be defeated by doubt and fear. An established thought life is the catalyst for a wholesome life.
Commit your works unto God today, and let Him establish you.
Blessing: May the Lord supply all your needs in accordance with His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Amen.
