Today, I would like to talk to you about, “The Government of Life,” based on the following Scripture: “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2). All the laws that govern the universe serve one purpose: to highlight and enforce the Law of Life. God’s kingdom is a government of life.
The aforementioned Scripture talks about two laws that are antagonistic to each other. On one hand, we have the Law of the Spirit of Life. And on the other hand, we have the law of sin and death. In reality, though, there is only one law: life. Death is not a law, but a lie. The same is true of sin.
God has no concept of death, nor of sin. It was mortals – through ignorance and misuse of free will– who conspired to manufacture the illusion of death and sin. This later became a (false) law that suppressed our God-given dominion. Part of Jesus’ mission was to break this illusion and shed light on our original righteousness and immortality (2 Timothy 1:9-10).
By repeatedly envisioning death and sin, we turn these into a law. But we forget that acknowledging something as law makes us subject to that law. We suffer because we have created false gods of sin and death.
Most of our sermons, doctrines, theology, conversations, and songs have a common theme: sin, sickness, death, and condemnation. We are constantly emphasizing these things – the very things we are supposed to forget – while giving little attention to the Law of Life. This has polluted our collective consciousness, thereby crippling our ability to (effortlessly) experience the fruits of life: vibrant health, inner peace, supreme wisdom, bliss, vigor, and immortality.
Any message, mindset, theology, song, or idea that conflicts with the Law of Life will lead us straight into spiritual and mental bondage. Our freedom comes from emphasizing the right things – which in this context refers to those ideas that are in line with the Law of Life.
Jesus came to reveal our freedom by simultaneously exposing the truth of life, as well as the untruth of death and sin. Today’s passage tells us that the Law of the Spirit of Life has made us free from the law of sin and death. God is spirit and life. He made us His exact image and likeness. Consequently, He does not recognize false images (sin and death) as having the force of law.
Whatever is not of God (or contrary to His nature) is not a law, and hence we are free from its influence. This includes death, sin, disease, and poverty. Because in God we all live, and move, and have our being (Acts17:28), we are universally governed by the Law of Life. Anything to the contrary (pretending to be a law), is illegal and unenforceable – and we must refuse to let it rule over us.
Let us choose the government of life.
With love and blessings
